December 2016 in pictures

Finding her toes.

Making and decorating sugar cookies. For the past few years, the kids have done this with my aunt, Cheryl, but Cheryl moved this year and we had to carry on the tradition by ourselves.

Diane and Jonathan really wanted santa hats this year and bought these with their own money. Jonathan didn't like the feel of the cheap fabric on his head, so he walked around with the fleece cuff flipped down because it was softer on his head.

Annual Christmas jammies by the Christmas tree photoshoot. I think there were actually two different sessions (the baby was asleep for the first one), but they're all mixed together at this point.

Jonathan was pretending to be a candy cane in this picture.

We got out the chimes a few times this year, but with a small group, we had to improvise a little.

We pulled the kids' mattresses out and let them sleep by the Christmas tree one night.

Showing off their new Christmas pillowcases from my mom.

We went to Din Tai Fung to celebrate Madeleine's birthday.

Singing Christmas carols on Christmas Eve.

I only have a few pictures from opening presents. Christmas was a little more hectic this year with it being on a Sunday.

And birthday festivities at night. Madeleine turned nine this year. She keeps growing up and is turning into such a fun person. She has been finding her sense of humor this year and learning a ton at school. She LOVES reading and is usually found holding a book. For Christmas and her birthday, she asked for books and art supplies.

We got a little bit of snow this winter and the kids had a fun morning outside with all the neighborhood kids.

Usually, New Year's Eve is nothing exciting around here. Sometimes we go to be before midnight. But this year, our friends, the Porters, joined us and made it much more fun. The kids made their own hats and got to stay up until about 9:00 before we put them to bed. Then the adults stayed up (barely) playing games and eating a lot of cheese.
