christmas 2012

here are our pictures from christmas day. we spent it at home, quietly, with just our little family. it was perfect.

continuing the tradition of balloons for madeleine from santa claus with her stocking. this year, mr. and mrs. claus had a bit of a miscommunication (mrs. claus' fault) and madeleine got twice as many balloons.

our kids slept in until 7:30 for us, and then savored christmas morning. they pored over each item in their stocking and played with each present after they opened it. we were still opening presents around 10:30. they really are at a great age where everything is magical and they are excited for every little thing,

like toothbrushes.

and band-aids!

jonathan loved being in the thick of it.

a birthday crown for the birthday girl.

diane loved the masks that i made for the kids. she put them on and immediately started making the corresponding animal noises and exhibiting any other behavior that she could think of associated with the animal.

opening presents with a little help from dad.

my girls love this game. it's a perfect adaptation of the adult game for kids. the goal is to get four in a row and simultaneously, to block the other players from getting four in a row. my girls play a completely defensive game, obsessively blocking anyone from getting four in a row if you have two chips anywhere close to each other and even neglecting to play a winning card because they would rather block another player. it's pretty hilarious to watch.

after all of the gifts, some play time, and then dutch babies for dinner (madeleine's birthday choice), we opened birthday presents and had cake.

madeleine wanted a chocolate cake with green frosting. pretty easy order.

we had a wonderful christmas and i think it's safe to say that madeleine had a great birthday. i still can't believe i have a five-year-old.
