california: day 1

what could have been a very eventful travel day wasn't bad at all. we got up in the morning and finished our last minute packing, loaded up the car, and then went to get gas. on our way to get gas, we noticed that the freeway was blocked off and what we could see of it was completely gridlocked, so we were worried about getting to the airport on time. fortunately, we pulled out randy's handy-dandy iPhone and figured out that it was only blocked until orem because of a terrible accident right by our house. we took side roads up about three exits from where we normally get on and everything was smooth sailing from there on out. we still arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare.

since madeleine is only 7-months old, she flew as a lap baby and i was a little nervous about how she would do, but she is a great traveler. she was happy the entire flight, including take-off and landing, and made sure to charm all of the nearby passengers, as well as the flight attendants.

after getting off the plane, we got our luggage and hung out for a little while to wait for randy's parents, but madeleine slept and i had a book, so that flew by. once we had all arrived in l.a. and had our luggage, we caught a shuttle and we were off for a great week in california with family.
