only two days into october and here is my round up of random september photos. i know i already included this picture of my mom and jonathan in my post about madeleine's first day of school, but somehow the only pictures i got of my mom while she was here are from madeleine's first day and i wanted to document my mom's visit here, too.
my mom got to come at the beginning of the month for a week and my dad joined us all on the last day and a half of her visit before they both headed off on a motorcycle trip with their friends. one of the perks of moving up here was that my parents are always happy to come visit us because they get to see their friends, too.
enjoying some of the nice weather on one of the weekends at the beginning of the month. the weather has not been so nice lately.
madeleine has been making lots of "books" lately. mostly it's a bunch of drawings taped together, but sometimes she writes words and this one was a lift-the-flap style book where she glued little flaps to cover up parts of the picture. the amount of paper we go through in this house is a little ridiculous...
okay, these next pictures are from a "photo shoot" i did with madeleine in our backyard, in lieu of school pictures. i went back and forth on this, and i still feel a little bad, but i decided not to get school pictures of madeleine. they're so ridiculously priced and i feel like i shouldn't have to pay someone that much to take a picture of my kid when i have a nice camera and take lots of pictures of my kids on my own. also, madeleine is doing this weird smile when she's posing (i know, i know, that's part of the whole school picture experience), so i figured i'd have better luck at home with her. i still don't know if we made the right decision entirely, perhaps she'll curse me later on in her life when she doesn't have awkward school pictures to compare with her friends, but the dye is cast, so i'm over it. and i got some pretty cute pictures.
jonathan wanted some, too.
and of course, diane had to be in on it as well.
because madeleine is doing her weird, posed smile, i had her tell me about an episode of jake and the neverland pirates while i took the pictures because she always smiles and laughs really hard whenever she tells me about the episodes (because apparently she thinks i really want to hear detailed explanations about the plots of children's shows). my plan worked pretty well.
although sometimes it just looks like she's talking.
this isn't the weird smile, by the way. just some random smile.
i canned a lot of marinara sauce one day a couple weeks ago. all set for the year.
this boy is getting too big.
when i pull my phone out to use it as a camera, he always says "eese!" (picked that up from the girls) and then tries to run around and look at the screen. so if i want a picture of him, i usually have to hold the phone up and turn the camera function around so he can see himself. he loves it.
still not the weird smile.
jonathan being entertained by the camera on my phone during church. nursery in a week and a half!
jonathan was teething earlier this month and it was miserable. let's just say neither of us slept too well. this was during one nap where he finally fell asleep in my arms and i just held him the whole time because i was too scared to transfer him to his crib. thankfully, i had a book within reach.
these are pictures from a friend's birthday party. it was a transportation themed party, so they called and asked the local fire station if they would bring a firetruck and ambulance to the party and they happily obliged. i wouldn't even have thought to ask. madeleine went on and looked (you can barely see her in this picture, inside the truck with a pink shirt on), but diane was overwhelmed and did not leave my side.
this was after a terrible teething night and jonathan was very tired.
this boy finally got a much needed haircut from his daddy, who is a much better barber than i. before and after pictures.
all clean!
he's pointing at himself in the camera.
for diane's nap, we frequently pull her mattress into our room and she falls asleep on our floor and then the kids usually play on it after naps like wild monkeys.
cute wild monkeys, though.
more playing with the phone. i believe i was trying to make him happy after he woke up from a nap pretty upset.
after teething, he got a cold, so we've had very little sleep and lots of snuggling this month. looking forward to winter this year, especially now that madeleine's in school and jonathan is going into nursery.
we've had a lot of rain the last few weeks - heavier and more than usual for september in seattle - but there have been occasional glorious afternoons and we've taking advantage of them.
these three play really well together. i love it.
posing for pictures after showers.
madeleine is such a ham right now. and i love the tops tucked into the pajama bottoms.
peanut butter and jelly, anyone?
randy has this mini-keyboard that plugs into his computer and jonathan loves to play with it. when he sits on the floor like this, i always think of peanuts. "you know something, schroeder!?!"
that's a wrap.

Sigh. I love it! Also, what a fabulous idea for Madeleine's pictures - much better than ridiculously priced school pictures. If you're consistent and do it every year it does the same documenting.
