thanksgiving

things that i am grateful for this thanksgiving season:

- being close to family
- music
- a healthy body
- good friends
- a loving husband, beautiful daughter, and another one on the way
- generous family members
- the gospel of jesus christ

there are so many more things that i am grateful for, but these are the big ones in my life. they seem to be the same things every year, but i think that that is a good thing. i would be sad if any one of them were missing from the list any given year. we are greatly blessed with abundance and joy in our life.

hotel on the corner of bitter and sweet

i just finished the book "hotel on the corner of bitter and sweet," by jamie ford. it is a historical fiction novel centered around the seattle international district and the japanese internment during world war II. it was a fun read and interesting to learn more about how the japanese in the northwest were affected by the war. my mom read it and based on her suggestion, i decided to read it. i am glad that i did. despite the subject matter, i actually felt like it was a pretty light read, which i was in the mood for. i have a few more things that i could say about the book, but i don't really want to give it away.

halloween

i just realized that i forgot to publish this post that i did a while ago for halloween.

we've already gone over this... i'm not that into halloween. so, i compromised and madeleine went to our family party in what i like to call a festive outfit. not really a costume of any sort, but it had halloween undertones. my grandpa's birthday is on halloween, so it's really not a halloween party so much as a birthday party anyway. madeleine had a great time running around in her festive tutu that i made, accompanied by purple bows from her aunt beth. i also made a similar one for my niece, so we got a couple pictures of them together as well.

randy and i had actually planned on going on a brief trick-or-treating run with madeleine, but we were both still so tired from moving the previous night that we didn't end up going. next year... we're still easing madeleine into this holiday.
