family pictures from 2010

in december, i had audrey take some pictures of us to give to randy's parents for christmas. that is why i didn't blog about them in december, although it doesn't explain why it took so long after christmas. i love the pictures. madeleine was being a little goofy in them (as you will see), but they still turned out great. the only thing that i'm sad about is that i didn't get pictures of each of the girls individually. i just forgot.

i tried to put the pictures into a header so that we could stop pretending that it was summer around this blog, but blogger is being weird and pixelating everything (even the old header, which i tried to put back on), so i've got to figure out what's going on and fix it.

 madeleine found the swim bag one day last month and really wanted to put on her swim gear. i even indulged her and let her take a bath in them. i think we're all feeling winter pretty keenly here.

madeleine asks me to turn on "her cd" for her and then gets out the music stand, music, and conducts along to the cd. it's pretty adorable to watch.

friday workday

madison house

with christmas break, we haven't had friday workday in a while. my mom and trish came down today and we did the madison house square and it came together pretty easily.

i have one more square to make - roman squares. it will be easy and i just need to do it on my own. i'll post a picture as soon as i'm done. we did some preliminary layouts today to see how we wanted to put the whole thing together and unanimously decided that we definitely need to put sashing between the squares. so, next time we are going to go to the fabric store together and pick out some sashing. after that, we'll be on our way to putting the whole quilt top together.

the hazards of nap time

lately, i have been putting diane down in her room for naps and having madeleine take a nap either in my bed or the bed in our spare room. diane is a sensitive sleeper and it makes for better naps for everyone.

but today, madeleine was going down for a nap first (which is rare), the spare bedroom was freezing, and i wanted to get things done in our room. so i put madeleine in her own bed and then tried to sneak in and put diane down a little later.

it turns out that madeleine was not asleep yet. and diane didn't go down without a fight, so madeleine started singing really loudly to calm her down. it actually did calm diane down, so i decided to see how all of this played out (i was listening over the monitor). madeleine sang for quite a while and then it went quiet. i figured that this meant that they had miraculously both gone to sleep. i should have known better.

a few minutes later, i hear madeleine say, "hold still, diane." only imagining what could be going on, i ran into their room to find madeleine in diane's crib with her, diane completely stripped down to her diaper, and madeleine trying to put a pair of pants (that had previously been in the dresser) on diane's head.

let's just say nap time did not go well today and madeleine will resume sleeping in a remote location immediately.

sick and tired

goal number one for 2011: get my little one feeling better. again.

we've all been battling a nasty cold since november and it finally seemed like we were hack and nasal discharge free as of christmas day. after only a week of being well, diane is sick. again. poor little thing. and she had the worst time of all with the previous cold.

i'm sick of being sick. sick of wiping an angry baby's nose. sick of not being able to interact with the outside world. sick of worrying about which one of us is going to get sick next.

here's to a healthy new year.
