massive catch up

it's been a bad few months for blogging. i often ask myself exactly what i'm doing that makes me feel so busy that i can't get anything done, but i'm just getting used to the fact that that is life with three small children.

i feel bad subjecting you to such a huge quantity of (mostly mediocre) pictures of the kids, but i don't have the energy to break them down into smaller groups.  so without further delay, here's a photo dump for april, may, and june. yikes.

jonathan usually wakes up about an hour before the girls, so we have our own little morning routine. play on the guest bed in his room for a couple minutes, scarf down a banana, and then breakfast.

he's usually pretty happy in the morning, which makes it much easier for me to get up at 6:15 with him.

madeleine's sun hat was getting too small for her, so i made her a new one for this year.

diane playing dress-up.

five going on fifteen. written all by herself with apparently only provocation from me.

a trip to the zoo.

the kids playing instruments together on the stairs.

okay, the following is only a (very) small selection of photos that i found on my phone one day. i was trying to buy a few extra minutes of a nap, so i handed my phone to madeleine and told her to take a few pictures of herself. i had forgotten about it until i looked at my phone's photo album a few days later.

this is what most mornings in may looked like. lots of board games. this lasted until jonathan figured out how to climb up on chairs and everything else in the house, at which point nothing was safe anymore.
peek-a-boo.

this is my absolute favorite stage with my babies - when they bring me books, turn around, and sit in my lap.

my kids (and i) spent most of june with runny noses, quarantined inside. can you say cabin fever?

diane ends up with paint and markers on her face by the end of the day at least once a week. it used to be more often.

peonies in my yard! i love these.

when i am thirty, i shall wear lipstick

for several years now, i've been telling myself that i will start to (occasionally) wear lipstick when i turn thirty. it was a way of giving myself a deadline to get over my fear of wearing lipstick. as with many other things, it's something that i love on other women but feel silly wearing myself (see also fun scarfs, bright colors, and bold patterns).

well, i turned thirty today.

i waited until yesterday, but i finally went out and bought some bright red lipstick. probably not the best way to ease into it, but i figured that i might as well go big or go home.

and this morning, i donned the mark of my thirties. i took a few pictures, jonathan stared and poked at my lips, diane told me that she liked my bright lips, and madeleine asked why i was wearing lipstick.

i have yet to go out in public wearing it. we have a ward function tonight and i will probably take it off before then. baby steps. but my goal is to wear it at least once a month and we'll see where we go from there. maybe once a week in my forties?
