let's be honest. madeleine's hair has been a little scruffy lately. a little mulletesque. so, i finally took her in for a haircut. i was going to take before and after pictures while she was in the barber's chair, but she wasn't exactly thrilled about the whole concept of a stranger cutting her hair, so i was focused on keeping her happier and i forgot to take pictures. here is an after picture of the back. the rest of it is pretty much the same, which means that the area over her ears are still going to be a little scruffy until it grows out, but the woman cutting her hair convinced me it was better this way.

randy's students' recital
randy's students had a recital yesterday and my cousin came and watched madeleine so that i could go to the recital. his students sounded great and it was fun to put names with faces for many of the students that i don't know but hear so much about. it was fun to see randy in his teaching role and to see what a great job he's doing. here are a couple of (blurry) pictures of him with my cousins, who he teaches.
fifteen months
madeleine turned fifteen months old yesterday with a doctor's appointment today. this did not go as smooth as past appointments. she's suddenly much more aware of her surroundings and is not very keen on strangers. to make matters worse, there was a med student that is doing an internship with our doctor, so madeleine was examined by the med student and the doctor. she screamed through both exams. and the shot.
percentiles*:
weight:
15 months - 22 lbs, 37th percentile
one year - 21.06 lbs, 53rd percentile
height:
15 months - 30 1/2", 53rd percentile**
one year - 30", 75th percentile
*apparently they are no longer measuring her head circumference
**although i don't trust this measurement. her fit had begun when they tried to take her measurements. she didn't exactly lay still between the foot marking and the head marking.

friday in the park
on friday after randy got home from work, madeleine was dying to get outside, so we all walked to the park by our house together. because it was pretty chilly (you can tell by the red noses in the pictures), the walk there and back took most of the time and we didn't stay long at the park.

sidewalk chalk
and thanks to daylight savings time, it was actually light enough for him to see it when he got home.

sisters' weekend 2009
this weekend was our annual sisters' weekend. thursday night, my mom and dad picked up beth, rachel, madeleine and me so that our husbands could have the cars for the weekend and we all headed up to my mom's, where audrey was waiting for us. the weekend was filled with talking, food, games, and projects. randy was even nice enough to come and get madeleine on saturday and give me a day all to myself. i got eight and a half hours of uninterrupted sleep on saturday night. by the time sunday afternoon rolled around and randy and madeleine came to pick me up though, i was very ready to see my little family again. i missed them a lot.
our party favors: beth brought everyone antibacterial hand stuff that smelled great, i brought nail buffers for everyone, audrey got us the beautiful white dish, and my mom went overboard and couldn't help herself. she got us bookmarks, the book, "elbert's bad word," (a family favorite), some candles, and a purse saver that hangs on the edges of things so that you can hang your purse from it instead of putting it on the floor.
one of the big projects from the week was glass etching our pyrex pans. it was a big project, but turned out well. now our pans are easily identifiable as ours.
another big project was working on the 2008 family photo album. it's almost done. maybe next year we'll have it done closer to the beginning of the year.
audrey and beth took on the additional project of making nursing tops. i already have one, so i didn't participate, but theirs turned out great! it was such a fun weekend for me.
